About the Art

This piece was painted from a place of collective heartbreak; the pain felt when witnessing the suffering of children in Gaza. At its center is the poem: When children are forced into heroism, it means the world has forgotten that every child deserves their childhood. The message is simple yet piercing: children should never have to be brave just to survive. They should be seen as children; deserving of safety, play, softness, and protection. Framed within the hand-painted keffiyeh border, a symbol of resilience and identity, the poetry creates a powerful contrast. Strength surrounds innocence. Resistance surrounds childhood. This artwork is a plea; for the world to look beyond headlines and politics, and to remember that every child, everywhere, deserves a full and sacred childhood.
